Starting Salary:                             $4,032.00 to $4,450 per month (depending on education and related experience)

 Job Summary:

The Rocky Mountain Conference (RMC) Associate Director of Camp Ministries works under the supervision of, and collaborates directly with, the Camp Ministries Director to provide leadership and oversight of Glacier View Ranch (GVR). The Associate Director’s primary role is facilities management, including the exercise of independent discretion in matters specifically concerning the planning, organizing, and directing of maintenance, repair, and upgrades to Ranch buildings and grounds. The Associate Director may work alone or with a team as assigned by the Camp Ministries Director.

The Associate Director will supervise part-time support personnel, summer camp staff, and volunteers as assigned. The Associate Director will work diligently to ensure that areas under his or her responsibility move forward within the vision, structure, and guidelines provided by the Rocky Mountain Conference and Youth Department. The Associate Director should also be prepared to represent GVR professionally to the public as this position serves as the Ranch’s representative and point of contact for facility management, interfacing directly with state/city/county regulatory agencies as needed. Finally, the Associate Director will assume full responsibility for the oversight and operation of Glacier View Ranch in the absence of the Camp Ministries Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a spiritual role model for all staff, willingly supporting them, as necessary.
  • Meet with the Camp Ministries Director regularly and as requested
  • Communicate regularly with the Camp Ministries Director regarding plant operation needs, prioritization/progress on projects, budget, staffing requests, concerns, etc.
  • Exercise independent discretion to ensure optimal utilization of support personnel, summer camp staff, and other resources as they are available and
  • Ensure that GVR’s facility-management-related finances remain within budget by being aware of Ranch operational needs and costs for improvements, repairs,
  • Ensure that purchases are made in accordance with Ranch procedures and
  • Negotiate with vendors for products and services to ensure the Ranch is receiving the best
  • Coordinate/schedule compliance testing and the use of outside repairmen, construction workers, and other contractors when
  • Operates heavy equipment
  • During the winter months expect to spend a significant amount of time maintaining the camp’s roadways by clearing/plowing/removing
  • Coordinate with Guest Services, ensuring that facilities are safe and ready for Communicate any concerns immediately with the Camp Ministries Director.
  • Be an active part of activities associated with guest registration, walk-through, on- call activities, guest services, and general guest
  • Maintain/store the blueprints and/or charts showing location of all utilities and cut- off
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for all shop and plant
  • Ensure that all Ranch buildings are properly cleaned, inspected, and maintained, keeping regular logs.
  • Keep schedules for proper maintenance of the grounds, equipment, and roads, ensuring that proper logs are
  • Review the regular maintenance schedules of all Ranch vehicles, ensuring that records are
  • Monitor ordering of all necessary gasoline, propane, and verify records are kept on how much is used.
  • Maintain operation of the freshwater facility and wastewater plant, ensuring compliance with state/city/county regulations.
  • Assist the Youth Ministries Director with operation and facilitation of Ranch usage to help with the successful operation of Summer Camp programs.
  • In the absence of the Camp Ministries Director assume responsibility for the Ranch by:
    • Assuming responsibility for the oversight and operation of the entire camp program
    • Coordinating daily operations of entire facility
    • Coordinating paid/volunteer staff as needed for daily and/or special projects
    • Facilitating staff meetings and
  • Assist with or assume responsibility for special projects as requested by the Camp Ministries Director and/or Youth Ministries
  • Assist all other departments in effectively completing their tasks when needed, including providing support as necessary
  • Determine the best methods to complete repairs, upgrades, installations, etc., by exercising independent discretion and taking into consideration cost-effectiveness, regulatory compliance and use of time, manpower, resources, etc.
  • Consult with Camp Ministries Director to ensure:
  • All decisions are taking into consideration the vision and needs of the greater camp program.
  • Spending falls within the appropriate budget and takes into consideration the needs of the larger camp program.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Education—high school diploma, maintenance training, and certification or classes highly
  • Experience
    • Minimum of two years experience in a similar role, preferably in a camp/ranch
    • Working with maintenance equipment, and has knowledge of how to perform necessary repairs, including chemicals used in the operation of various maintenance
    • Supervisory skills with the ability to direct multiple projects
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and must not have more than two traffic citations and no at fault accidents during the three previous
  • Membership in a local, Rocky Mountain Conference church
    • Must be a Seventh-day Adventist member, in good standing, within six months, if transferring from outside the Rocky Mountain Conference.
    • Must be faithful in contributing tithes and offerings to the Rocky Mountain

Typical Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to stand and/or walk for several hours each day. Employee must have the ability to bend, kneel, stoop, push, pull and reach overhead. Ability to use hand and power tools of all types properly and safely. Ability to lift up-to 90 pounds and carry items for short to moderate distances. The employee is required to use stairs and will need to carry items up and down stairs.

Employee will also be required to climb ladders and work on roof tops. Employee must be able to drive and operate various plows and vehicles in rugged, mountain conditions and in the snow. Must be able to effectively communicate in English both orally and written.

Working Conditions

Essential responsibilities are performed while working at Glacier View Ranch in Ward, Colorado, which is at an elevation of 9,450 feet. Employee must be able to work at this altitude. Tasks are performed in a variety of locations and conditions around the Ranch, including indoor/outdoor workshop areas, rugged outdoor areas, and indoor facilities such as the lodge, lodge rooms and cabins as well as the pool area, wastewater plant and freshwater facility. Some tasks are performed outdoors on a year-round basis; employee may be exposed to extreme hot and cold conditions, depending on the weather. Employee may be exposed to unpleasant and noxious fumes and odors and may require an employee to be exposed to hazardous work environments. The employee will also be exposed to chemicals and solutions that are commonly used to clean, disinfect, treat, repair, etc. Some jobs require an employee to work where there is a significant chance of injury. Employee is expected to take necessary precautions and to use great skill and care when working in such conditions.

The Associate Director position requires great flexibility in hours available for work, including evenings and weekends. The position is a full time, salaried position and while the salary is based upon a projected 38 hours per week, the actual number of hours required during any given week are those needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Furthermore, it is recognized that the schedule may vary at different times of the year.
